Virtual Walk of Prince Edward County

What is a Virtual Walk?

To participate in the Virtual Walk, you can walk anywhere, anytime, inside or outside. The time you spend walking will be counted as if you spent that time walking a piece of the distance around Prince Edward County (PEC) - a virtual walk. An online tool tracks your progress. As you progress around the county, you will be able to “visit” various places. Information has been provided at each 5 km mark, approximately, on the website map of PEC. Discover history, culture, natural features and mysteries.

Walk Challenge Contest

Anyone can complete the walk around the county; however, the walk challenge is open only to residents of Hastings and Prince Edward counties. The contest is a prize draw open to those who walk enough to complete the Virtual Walk.

Creating Your Account

How To Start A Walking Club

Starting a walking club is easier than you think. All it takes is a few interested participants and a little imagination. It's as simple as 1, 2, 3.

Step 1.

Start by getting other interested people together and decide what is important to your group. You may ask yourselves questions including: Why do we want to start a club? Who can join? How many members will we have? What will we offer to people?

Step 2.

Organize the club. Divide up tasks among your group. Some people can plan the walks, some can promote or advertise the activities, and everyone can take turns leading the walks.

Step 3.

Plan the walks. Choose the routes you will take, when, and where to meet. Then get out there — walk and have fun!

Indoor Walking

Walking is the most popular form of physical activity. Walking is suitable for all ages and most people, even those with health concerns. It offers benefits similar to the benefits gained through more vigorous forms of activity. People who are regularly active reduce their chance for developing chronic diseases, like heart disease, type 2 diabetes and osteoporosis. They report experiencing less depression and having more energy.

Indoor walking provides an alternative to walking outside, especially when the weather, or health concerns, makes walking outside more challenging. Some of the benefits people enjoy from indoor walking include:
  • climate controlled settings
  • flat surface
  • no traffic concerns
