Promotion of Pap testing over the past years has raised awareness among women about the importance of regular Pap testing. However, many women in our community encounter barriers to accessing this routine screening test. The most significant barrier is not having a family physician or health care provider.

In July 2003, the Health Unit’s Sexual Health Clinics began to provide Pap testing on a limited basis for women for whom barriers to access exist. The intention is not to duplicate existing health services, but to fill a gap in services until such time as the health care community is able to respond to the need. This service is offered to women on a limited basis following strict appointment guidelines.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Resident of Hastings and Prince Edward counties area
  • Over 20 years of age
  • No family doctor
  • Prefer to see a female health care provider for Pap testing
